Victoria Kate Shanmugam
SOM Clinician Scholar Track -- Assistant Professor
A native of London, England, Dr. Shanmugam completed her undergraduate degree in Physiology at the University of Oxford before attending Imperial College School of Medicine where she graduated with honors in Medicine in 1999. Dr. Shanmugam obtained membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2002. She moved to Washington, DC in 2003. After completing residency and fellowship training at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, Dr. Shanmugam joined the faculty in the Division of Rheumatology in 2007. She is the recipient of numerous awards including an American College of Rheumatology Physician Scientist Development Award, the John Eisenberg Memorial Career Development Award, and the C. Bertram Hoffberger Research Achievement Award. She was a KL2 scholar at the Georgetown-Howard Universities Center for Clinical and Translational Science. She is now Principal Investigator for the Wound Etiology and Healing (WE-HEAL) Study.
