Dr. Karen Kesten is an associate professor of nursing within the Department of Nursing at Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Studies (NHS. Dr. Kesten was the Director of the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist graduate programs from 2004-2014.Currently Dr. Kesten is the Director of Educational Innovations at the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

Dr. Kesten received a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the University of Maryland. She received a master’s degree in nursing from The Catholic University of America and a post-master’s certificate in nursing education from the University of Maryland. Her Bachelor's degree in Nursing is from Emory University.

Prior to joining the faculty, Dr. Kesten worked as a clinical nurse specialist at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, MD and Washington Hospital Center. Dr. Kesten is board certified as a critical care nurse (CCRN), progressive care nurse (PCCN), certified nurse educator (CNE) and an acute and critical care clinical nurse specialist (CCNS).

Dr. Kesten is a member of the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and is currently an appointed member of the Board of Directors for the Certification Corporation of the American Association of Critical- Care Nurses.
