Kline is a Professor of International Business Diplomacy in the Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University. He is a past Director of the Master of Science in Foreign Service Program and the Karl F. Landegger Program in International Business Diplomacy. His teaching focuses on international business-government relations, international investment strategies and negotiations, and international business ethics.
The updated second edition of Dr. Kline's textbook, Ethics for International Business: Decision-Making in a Global Political Economy, was released by Routledge in London and New York in May, 2010. He is the author of three other books as well as numerous scholarly articles and chapters in co-authored and edited books. Prior to joining the Georgetown faculty, Dr. Kline was Director of International Economic Policy at the National Association of Manufacturers. He received his doctorate in political science from The George Washington University and holds a masters degree in international relations from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. Dr. Kline serves as a consultant to various international organizations and private multinational corporations. His recent projects include a comparative analysis for UNCTAD on foreign investment policy promoting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia and Singapore, and on electricity infrastructure in Chile and New Zealand. A new Research Report by Dr. Kline traces the start-up of an apparel factory in the Dominican Republic that pays workers a “living wage” while fully respecting freedom of association and other labor rights. The Report assesses the factory’s initial impact and its relationship to traditional arguments about overseas “sweatshops”.
