2000-

The Neale lab has pioneered the characterization of N-Acetylaspartylglutamate (NAAG)as the third most transmitter in the brain and spinal cord. In the course of these studies we have explored the ability of novel drugs that inhibit the inactivation of NAAG in the brain reduce perception of inflammatory and neuropathic pain. This work continues with the our collaborative development of more effective drugs and study of the cellular mechanisms by which these drugs work.
