Ana de Jesus in France and the Low Countries

Mujica, Barbara. "Ana de Jesus in France and the Low Countries." Hispanic Studies in Honor of Robert L. Fiore. Ed. Chad M. Gasta and Julia Dominguez. Newark, Delaware: Juan de la Cuesta, 2009: 327-345

Ana de Jesus was one of Teresa de Avila's friends and disciples. After Teresa's death, she carried the Carmelite reform to France and the Low Countries. Her letters reveal how the Spanish nuns struggled to survive in a hostile enviroment, where they suffered from the cold, lack of money, resentment from French and Belgian nuns, and the lack of linguistic skills.
