Bio

Astrid Weigert joined the Department as a faculty member in the fall of 1999.

Research interests include:

gender and genre in 18th and 19th century German literature, in particular in Romanticism (Dorothea Schlegel) and Naturalism (Elsa Bernstein, pseud. Ernst Rosmer;

women translators in the 18th and 19th centuries;

curriculum and course development and assessment with an emphasis on the advanced learner and German business culture.


In January 2014, Astrid Weigert was awarded the College Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.

In March 2011, Astrid Weigert was elected to a three-year term as the "German Area Director" for the Northeast Modern Language Association (NeMLA).

Since 2004, Astrid Weigert has been the Book Review Editor for "The German Quarterly."
