Bio
My interests lie with NLP technologies that make language data accessible to end users. Throughout my professional career I’ve worked on technologies that identify, extract, summarize and translate linguistic data for users. The specific human language technologies I’ve researched include coreference resolution, cross-cultural name matching, information extraction, information retrieval, multilingual optical handwriting recognition, temporal annotation, summarization and transliteration. Most recently, I’ve focused on natural language systems engineering, which involves building and integrating human language technologies such as speech recognition and machine translation into document and media processing systems. My favorite part of this field is working with users to create or expose capabilities that make their jobs easier and more efficient. From the point of view of theoretical linguistics, I most enjoy phonology and phonetics. My dissertation research focused on cross language speech perception.
