Professor Shafran joined the McDonough School of Business faculty in 2010. Most recently he served at the US Department of the Treasury in 2008 and 2009 for Secretary Paulson and Secretary Geithner as a Senior Advisor. He began his career at Goldman Sachs & Co., where he worked from 1986-2001. While at Goldman he was co-head of the Principal Investment Area in Asia and was head of the regional Charitable Contributions Committee. He was based in Hong Kong and Singapore from 1993-2004. He founded a distressed asset business based in Hong Kong in 2001, and has served on numerous boards in his capacity as a private equity professional. He was also a City Councilman in Ketchum Idaho from 2006-2007.
