Steven Rathgeb Smith’s primary fields of interest are the relationship between government and nonprofit organizations, nonprofit and public management, and social services policy. He is currently on leave from the Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington where he is the Nancy Bell Evans Professor of Public Affairs and Director of the Nancy Bell Evans Center on Nonprofit Organizations & Philanthropy. He was the editor of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly (NVSQ), the journal of the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action (ARNOVA) from 1998-2004. From 2006-2008, he was president of ARNOVA. At GPPI, he will be teaching courses on public-private partnerships, the implementation of social policy, and nonprofit management.
