Steve Machlin has worked as a statistician in the federal government for over 25 years at a variety of agencies including the Census Bureau, National Center for Health Statistics, Government Accountability Office, and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, where he is currently Deputy Director of the Division for Statistical Research and Methods in the Center for Cost and Financing Studies. He has extensive experience in the design and analysis of large national surveys, especially in the area of health, and has also worked on smaller scale statistical studies in the areas of health, education, and welfare. Prior to joining GPPI as an adjunct professor in 2004, he taught several short courses in sampling and statistics for the Government Accountability Office Training Institute and was an instructor for a public health statistics course at George Washington University.
