Professor Krupar joined the CULP core faculty in the fall of 2008 as Assistant Professor. She holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Geography from the University of California at Berkeley, where she taught in spring 2008 before her appointment at Georgetown. She also holds an M.A. in East Asian Studies from Stanford University. Her research and teaching interests, which lie at the intersection of Geography, Architecture, and Performance Studies, have focused on the emergent museums and curatorial practices of postsocialist urban China, and the politics of nature conservation and environmental memory at decommissioned military sites and nuclear facilities in the U.S. West.

Krupar has several articles published in major peer-reviewed journals, including Society and Space, Public Culture, and Radical History Review. Sage’s 2008 Handbook of Architectural Theory will include her co-authored chapter on theories of spectacle. She is also co-authoring the volume Architectures of Globalization: Figures of Performance and Practice, which explores how globalization is transforming the visual, cultural contexts of architectural design education and theory. Krupar travels extensively to give lectures and performances, most recently at the Royal Geographical Society in London, the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study’s workshop “Space, Power, Nation,” and the Montreal-based Artivistic Conference “Un.Occupied Spaces.”

As a member of the core faculty, Professor Krupar teaches the course “Detouring the Global City” and a variety of other offerings, such as spatial theory, museum cultures, and landscape as an aesthetic object, political-economic artifact and social practice.
