Bio

Jason Rosenblatt, Professor of English, grew up in Annapolis, where his late father served as rabbi for 40 years and where his mother still lives. He holds a B.A. from Yeshiva University, where he also attended the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary, and advanced degrees from Brown University.

Before coming to Georgetown in 1974, Jason taught at Brown,the University of Pennsylvania, and Swarthmore College. Publications include Renaissance England's Chief Rabbi:John Selden (Oxford, 2006)Torah and Law in ‘Paradise Lost’ (Princeton, 1994), a coedited book on biblical narrative (Indiana, 1991), and more than two dozen essays on seventeenth-century English literature. He is at present under contract with W. W. Norton to edit a Norton Critical Edition of Milton’s Selected Poetry and Prose (exclusive of Paradise Lost. His main long-term project is an annotated edition of John Selden's Table Talk.

Awards include Fellowships from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, the Folger Shakespeare Library, and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Jason is a past president of the Milton Society of America (1999) and recipient of its Hanford Award
(1989).

He is married to Zipporah Marton, a registered nurse, and they have two children and four grandchildren.
