Alvaro Ribeiro S.J. is an Associate Professor of English. He is an expert in Shakespeare; 17th and 18th century British literature and culture; analytical bibliography and textual criticism; music history; and theology and literature.
He earned his DPhil from Oxford University, MDiv, STL from Weston Jesuit School of Theology and BA from the University of Hong Kong.
Recent Ribeiro publications include: Editor of Tradition in Transition: Women Writers, Marginal Texts, and the Eighteenth-Century Canon (Oxford: Clarendon, 1996); editor of The Letters of Dr Charles Burney, Volume I: 1751-1784 (Oxford: Clarendon, 1991); editor (with René Wellek) of Evidence in Literary Scholarship (Oxford: Clarendon, 1979).
Ribeiro teaches courses on Shakespeare; the "Long" Eighteenth Century, particularly Samuel Johnson and his Circle; and the Man Booker Prize for Fiction.
