Peter Hinrichs began as Assistant Professor in the Georgetown Public Policy Institute in Fall 2007 after receiving his Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also holds a B.A. in Economics and Mathematics from the University of California, Berkeley. His research interests fall under the area of applied microeconomics and, more specifically, the economics of education. Recent projects include a historical evaluation of the National School Lunch Program, a study of the effects of college diversity on income and civic behavior, a study of the effects of statewide affirmative action bans on college enrollment, and a study of the effects of high school starting times on academic achievement. He is currently working on a study of college desegregation and a study of the relationship between affirmative action bans and college graduation rates. At GPPI he teaches Regression Methods for Policy Analysis; the thesis advising workshop; and School Choice, Accountability, and Quality.
