Laura LoGerfo is a Research Associate in the Urban Institute's Education Policy Center. A social psychologist of education, Dr. LoGerfo has explored the interaction of teacher attitudes and student performance in the context of school structure, organization, and reform. Her research ranges from qualitative research of high school reform, particularly the small schools movement, to quantitative studies of teacher accountability and educational inequality using structural equation modeling and multilevel modeling. Topics of recent research include: estimation of yearly achievement gains in elementary school and high school; gender, ethnic, and socioeconomic inequality in the primary grades; a critical review of after-school program evaluations; and the development, context, and importance of teacher responsibility and collective efficacy.
