Jason J. Fichtner is the Chief Economist at the Social Security Administration (SSA). As Chief Economist, Dr. Fichtner is responsible for executive leadership in the development and execution of economic policy for SSA. Additionally, Dr. Fichtner manages a research staff responsible for conducting analyses of social insurance policies based on major social initiatives and economic trends. Previously, Dr. Fichtner was the Deputy Commissioner for Social Security (Acting) and the Associate Commissioner for Retirement Policy. Before joining the Social Security Administration, Dr. Fichtner was a Senior Economist with the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) of the United States Congress. Dr. Fichtner’s primary research interests are Social Security, federal tax policy, budget issues, as well as policy proposals to increase saving and investment. Before joining the JEC, he was a Senior Consultant with the Office of Federal Tax Services of Arthur Andersen in Washington, DC. Jason started his DC-based career as an Economist with the Research Division of the Internal Revenue Service. Dr. Fichtner currently serves on the GPPI Alumni Board as the Fundraising Chair. He previously served as the Chair of the inaugural GPPI Alumni Board for 2005-2006 and the Fundraising Chair of the 2007-2008 Alumni Board. He was honored as the 2006 recipient of the Colin Campbell Award, which recognizes GPPI alumni for their support of the GPPI community.
