Bio

Dr. Toretsky received his MD in 1988 from the University of Minnesota. He completed his pediatric residency at the Medical College of Virginia in 1991, and his pediatric oncology fellowship at the National Cancer Institute Pediatric Branch in 1994. He came to Lombardi in 2002 from the Departments of Pediatrics and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Maryland.

Dr. Toretsky divides his time between Lombardi's pediatric outpatient clinic and his research laboratory. His clinical interests include rare pediatric hematology diseases (including ADAMTS13 deficiency leading to congenital thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura) and childhood cancer, in particular osteosarcoma (bone cancer), synovial sarcoma, and Ewing's sarcoma. Dr. Toretsky actively pursues research that will lead to new and more specific therapies for Ewing's sarcoma.
