Bio

Maurice Jackson teaches courses on the Atlantic, African-Americans, Washington, DC, social movements and Jazz history. He is an affiliated faculty member in the Department of Performing Arts (Music). He formally came to academe later than most having spent a good part of his early adulthood as a community and progressive organizer. He has also been a longshoreman and a rigger in his hometown of Newport News, Virginia and a house painter and construction worker in Washington, DC.

In April of 2009, he was inducted into the Washington, DC Hall of Fame for his years of service to the people of the Nation’s capital.
