Bio

Herbert M. Howe is Assistant Professor of African Studies at Georgetown University. He has specialized in African security and political affairs for over thirty years, beginning with Peace Corps service in Nigeria. His current research focuses on Africa's post-Cold War security situation. He has consulted for several NGOs and the U.S. government. Dr. Howe has made numerous media appearances and won awards for his teaching at Georgetown. His recent book, Ambiguous Order, argues that Africa faces an unprecedented period of military conflict and that many of the continent's armies will remain incapable of defending their regimes. Dr. Howe received his Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University.
