The McDonough School of Business has conducted a 6 week summer study abroad opportunity for undergraduates, at Oxford University, for over 30 years. During the course of the program at Trinity College, students take two senior level courses, Comparative Strategic Management and International Finance. Professor Hoell administers the program which includes hiring Oxford University faculty to teach the two courses; making arrangements with Trinity College for lodging, meals, and teaching space; making arrangements to take the students on business site visits to financial and accounting firms in the London area; and making arrangements for the students to attend various cultural events. Professor Hoell resides at Trinity College during the program to ensure the program runs smoothly.
Professor Hoell specializes in methods of Statistical Instruction. She has taught in the area for over 25 years and continues to establish new classroom techniques. In addition, Professor Hoell serves on the Honor Council and helps with The McDonough School of Business Case Competition teams. Professor Hoell has taught at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) as coordinator of the quantitative methods sequence and as an instructor of quantitative methods. While at Virgina Tech, she received the University Certificate of Teaching Excellence, the Pamplin College of Business Teaching Excellence award and the Management Science Departmental Outstanding Instructor Award. A faculty fellowship at Virginia Tech allowed her the opportunity of create video instruction materials for a statistical software package. Education
