Bio

Edilma Yearwood, Ph.D., RN, PMHCNS, BC, FAAN, teaches graduate and undergraduate psychiatric-mental health nursing at Georgetown University School of Nursing & Health Studies.

Professor Yearwood is an ANCC certified advanced practice nurse in Child & Adolescent Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN).

In 2008, she served as a U.S. Fulbright Senior Specialist at the University of West Indies School of Nursing, Mona Campus, in Kingston, Jamaica. While there, she taught undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty concepts related to mental health and evidence-based practice. She also visited multiple mental health treatment sites. Professor Yearwood remains on the Fulbright roster until 2012.

She has been on the editorial board of the Journal of Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing (JCAPN) since 1988, and is the editor for a column in JCAPN titled, 'Culture Bound.' She also serves as a reviewer for a variety of peer-reviewed journals and is serving as one of the editors of a forthcoming book on child and adolescent behavioral health.

Professor Yearwood is a qualitative researcher whose interests include child & adolescent mental health; health and mental health of immigrant Latin American and Caribbean families and cultural diversity. Her current research focuses on childhood obesity in Latin American populations.
