Bio
Mark Danielsen, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology, is an expert in biological defense and pathogen detection. He runs a state of the art laboratory that devises and implements methods of detection of biological and chemical threat agents such as the biological pathogens anthrax and plague, botulinum toxin and the nerve gas sarin. His work is funded by the Department of Defense. Dr Danielsen is also an expert on steroid receptors, in particular glucocorticoid and androgen receptors. His interests include the roles played by estrogen and androgen receptors in the development of breast and prostate cancers, and the effects of environmental pollutants on the activity of steroid receptors during fetal development. He runs the Nuclear Receptor Resource, an international database. He teaches in the areas of pathogen detection, biodefense, endocrinology, biochemistry, molecular biology and bioinformatics.
