Wallander previously was Director and Senior Fellow of the Russia and Eurasia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (2001-2006); she remains a Senior Associate of CSIS. She was Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations in Washington, D.C. (2000-2001), and Associate Professor of Government at Harvard University (1989-2000). She is the founder and executive director of the Program on New Approaches to Russian Security. Her recent projects include work on U.S.-Russian security cooperation, the history of Russia and globalization, HIV/AIDS in Russia, and Ukrainian security relations. She is the author of over 70 scholarly and public interest publications. She is currently writing "Global Russia: Economics, Politics, and Security" and "The Geopolitics of Energy in Eurasia". She often testifies before Congress and serves as a media analyst on Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Eurasian security issues. She has received fellowships from the National Science Foundation, the German Marshall Fund of the United States, and the National Council for Soviet and East European Research.
