Bio
In the French Department since 1972, Professor Betz received both the M.A. and Ph. D. from Cornell University, where she was a Woodrow Wilson Fellow. A dedicated teacher, her main interest and area of expertise is nineteenth century French poetry. Her published articles, reviews and conference presentations include "Chateaubriand's Itineraire and the Profits of Tourism", "Vicor Hugo, Juliette Drouet and an Unpublished Anniversary Letter from 1851", and "Baudelaire, Swinburne and the Legacy of Greece."
The Associate Editor of Romance Quarterly, Professor Betz continues to be active in University affairs. From 1983 to 1991, she served as Secretary to the Faculty Senate to which office she has been re-elected in 1995, and at one time or another has held all offices in Phi Beta Kappa.
