Georgetown University today announced that Stephanie Tsacoumis has been appointed Vice President and General Counsel, effective November 2. In this role Tsacoumis will provide advice and counsel on a broad spectrum of legal issues and oversee a team of legal professionals within the Office of General Counsel.
“I am pleased to welcome Stephanie to the Georgetown community as the next phase in her distinguished legal career,” said President John J. DeGioia. “She has represented a broad array of clients in the non-profit and corporate sectors on regulatory and transactional matters and brings experience as a counselor to senior management and boards of directors on issues of strategy, governance and compliance.”
Tsacoumis comes to Georgetown after most recently serving as a corporate partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, where she recently completed a six-year term as Co-Partner-in-Charge of the Washington, DC office. She joined the firm in 1996. Prior to that, Tsacoumis was a Corporate Partner in the Washington, DC offices of Morrison & Foerster LLP and McKenna, Conner & Cuneo.

Tsacoumis’ focus on pro bono work and community service as well as her expertise in mergers and acquisitions has earned her a number of accolades throughout her career. She is also widely published in her field and is a sought after speaker on topics including corporate governance. She has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law in the L.L.M. program at Georgetown University Law Center since 2001. Tsacoumis earned her B.A. from the College of William and Mary and her law degree from the University of Virginia.
