In front of a raucous crowd of nearly 3,000 students and fans, Georgetown University tipped off the college basketball season with its annual Midnight Madness celebration at McDonough Arena on October 17th. Fans were introduced to the 2009-2010 Georgetown Men's and Women's basketball teams and watched a dunking exhibition and run of the floor by the men's team.

Other activities during the event included an outdoor party featuring the Georgetown University Grilling Society and an ESPN promotion to give one student the chance to win a seat at the broadcasting table at one basketball game during the season. The night also featured performances by the GU Step Team, Groove Theory, and an unveiling of former All-American center Roy Hibbert's NBA jersey.
