Community Service Day 2009
New Hoyas Serving Their Community
September 28, 2009

More than 500 first-year and transfer students reached out to neighboring Washington, D.C., and northern Virginia communities as part of Georgetown’s Community Service Day. Community Service Day serves as an introduction to the Jesuit tradition of service for incoming first-year and transfer students. Students travel to one of various sites across the city to participate in service projects including gardening at Catholic Charities’ Mount Carmel House homeless shelter for women, outdoor work at Hardy Middle School in Northwest D.C., and food delivery with Food and Friends.

Community Service Day is sponsored by Campus Ministry, the Center for Social Justice, the New Student Orientation committee, Residence Life and the Center for Student Programs.
