Exchange Opened Between GU, Mexico's Top Execs
Former Mexican President Vicente Fox joined Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia on Sept. 24 to sign a cooperative agreement between the university and Mexican nonprofit Centro Fox.
Centro Fox works to develop leaders across a variety of sectors in Mexico. Under the agreement between the organization and Georgetown, the two will partner to develop and deliver educational initiatives for top executives from multinational corporations.
“We welcome this opportunity to share educational resources, develop additional partnering opportunities in Mexico and the United States and to deepen Mexican-American dialogue through a series of academic exchanges and educational summits,” DeGioia said during the signing.
Fox, who served as Mexico’s president from 2000 to 2006, established Centro Fox after he left office to conduct studies of economics, human and social development, politics, public administration and foreign affairs.
“This new relationship with Georgetown University will promote global leadership and democracy through unique cultural and educational opportunities,” said Fox. “Together, we stand at the forefront of this exciting initiative to undertake the first-ever educational programming for these essential navigators of our global economy.”
Georgetown’s School of Continuing Studies will work with Centro Fox to create educational programming for chief cultural officers -- executives who help multinational organizations understand the cultural context of doing business in emerging economies.
Georgetown faculty will teach courses that address some of the most pressing issues facing corporations in the United States and Mexico; issues such as diversity, global human resource practices and corporate social responsibility. The programs will take place on Georgetown’s campus and in Mexico.
“The advantage of this partnership between Georgetown and Centro Fox stems from our ability to lead conversations about critical workplace issues of global importance,” said Rob Manuel, dean of the School of Continuing Studies.
The agreement serves as Georgetown’s latest global venture. And the university continues its commitment to global engagement with a campus in Doha, Qatar, as well as academic programs and collaborative relationships across Asia, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.
