New Student Convocation 2009
Segment of address by Provost James O'Donnell
August 30, 2009

"By Wednesday you’ll be in spaces that look familiar -- chalkboards, one-armed desks, clocks on the wall with hands that move amazingly slowly, but they’ll be places unlike any you’ve known before. Places for reaching and testing, for slowing down and speeding up, places for taking responsibility -- for yourself and for the lives and world you’re about to be handed."

Provost and Professor of Classics James J. O'Donnell addressed the incoming class of 2013 at the 2009 New Student Convocation on August 30, 2009. The Convocation is part of the New Student Orientation program. Over 1,500 new students attended to hear from university leaders and celebrate the start of their college careers at Georgetown.
