Training Nurses to Address Global HIV/AIDS
An interview with Kevin Mallinson

A registered nurse who also has a Ph.D. in nursing, Kevin Mallinson
has committed his career to training nurses to deal with HIV/AIDS in
countries where it is a pandemic such as South Africa, Lesotho, and
Swaziland.  When he travels with his students to these countries, he
teaches them to listen to what native nurses in the clinics have to
say about their needs, rather than imposing an outside agenda.
Through creative partnerships with clinicians in AIDS-ravaged lands,
Mallinson and his team have learned much about nurse-doctor
communication, and what kinds of responses can result in better
