Georgetown to Host Overnight Relay to Benefit American Cancer Society
Community Relay One of Nation's Largest
WHO:
More than 2500 Georgetown students, faculty, staff and community members will mobilize and join colleges across the nation in a celebration of life and hope during one of the American Cancer Society's largest Relay For Life celebrations in the region.
Over 200 relay teams have been formed by student clubs, athletic teams, service programs, residence hall floors, and groups of friends. Each team will have at least one member walking throughout the entire twelve hours. Other student groups will provide food, entertainment, and financial support during the event. |
WHAT:
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is an overnight community celebration where individuals and teams camp out, barbecue, dance, and take turns walking around a track relay-style to raise funds to fight cancer. At nightfall, participants will light hundreds of luminaria around the track in a moving ceremony to honor cancer survivors as well as friends and family members lost to the disease. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated.
Last year’s Georgetown University Relay for Life was the top college relay in the country, raising more than $400,000 for the American Cancer Society—one of the largest college Relays in the history of the national Relay for Life. |
