Education Leaders Gather at Georgetown University to Discuss Parents' Role in Education Reform
WHO:
  • Susan Kane, Editorial Director of The Parenting Group and Editor-in-Chief, Parenting
  • Robert Manuel, Dean of Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies
WHAT:

Parenting magazine and Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies will host a press conference to announce the creation of the Mom Congress on Education and Learning, a prosocial initiative to connect and celebrate moms working for positive change in our nation’s schools.

Parenting will announce the results of a national survey of moms of school-age children identifying their top educational concerns, including: the resources parents would fight hardest to protect from budget cuts; advertising on school property; overscheduling; roadblocks to parent involvement; and standardized testing.

A panel discussion with MCEL advisory board members will explore the ever-increasing role parents play in implementing positive change in our nation’s schools, and how to encourage moms to advocate for better educational standards on their children’s behalf – on both a local and national level.

INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES with MCEL advisory board members include:
Randi Weingarten, President, American Federation of Teachers
• Lily Eskelsen, Vice President, National Education Association
Melinda George, Senior Director, PBS TeacherLine and National Education Partnerships
Supriya Jindal, First Lady of Louisiana, and Founder, Supriya Jindal Foundation
