Zimbabwe's Political Economy
Expert commentary by Scott Taylor
October 13, 2008

Once one of Africa’s most prosperous countries, Zimbabwe now suffers the world’s highest rate of inflation and is experiencing a power struggle over the executive authority of the country. African Studies director Scott Taylor discusses why Zimbabwe is experiencing an economic downfall, how the leadership struggle is affecting the economy, and the dynamics of the new power-sharing deal. Professor Taylor also discusses his role in launching the new Georgetown Africa Interest Network (GAIN), a resource to better communicate Africa-related work taking place on the Georgetown campus.

Scott Taylor is an associate professor and director of the African Studies Program in the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service. His research and teaching interests lie in the areas of African politics and political economy, with a particular emphasis on business-state relations, anti-corruption programs, and economic reform. Regionally, Taylor’s work is concentrated in Southern and Eastern Africa.
