Schizophrenia
An Interview with Joseph Neale
March 12, 2008

Biology professor Joseph Neale discusses his twenty-five years of researching severe psychiatric disorders and the research currently being conducted that is pointing to new approaches in treatment.

Joseph Neale is Professor of Biology in the Department of Biology. His research focuses on the neurobiology of pain perception and schizophrenia. His group has pioneered research over the past two decades that has demonstrated that N-acetylaspartylglutamate (NAAG) is the 3rd most prevalent transmitter in the nervous system. Working with colleagues, this group has made significant progress in the development of completely novel drug therapies for inflammatory pain and schizophrenia in animal models.
