Czech President Klaus Speaks on Berlin Wall
Klaus Urges Integration, Not Unification for EU
November 5, 2009

Georgetown University’s Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies hosted a Nov. 5, 2009 speech at Georgetown marking the 20th anniversary of the fall of communism featuring His Excellency Vaclav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic. During his speech, Klaus expressed caution about the buildup of central power in Europe.

"I don't expect old communism to come back," said Klaus. "I see other 'isms' waiting for their chance … [and] their structural characteristics look dangerously similar [to communism]."
